I've tried uninstalling, making sure the apps are up to date. I've tried copy and pasting in but nothing will work. This has been working fine up until recently and nothing seems to fix it. When I drag in a layer I get the usual green button with a plus sign but nothing shows up. Please can you help? This is really slowing everything down as I work on very quick concepts and dont have time to keep saving down files and re-opening in illustrator.

Dragging and dropping Photoshop using the icon in the title bar will only work with a saved document. If you have not been saving as you go then it will respond as you've described. The You Tube video found at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f6xxFJrJd5A may also be helpful in figuring out your issue.

I had to revert to 26.2.0 to get drag and drop to work (and it also works with unsaved documents).
But there are some problems with drag and drop.
Dragging a Photoshop file with another ICC Profile than the ICC profile of the Illustrator document will change the Illustrator Document Color Profile to the drag&dropped one, changing all the colors in the Illustrator document. Using Place or Copy/Paste will not do this.

Ton, I got drag and drop to work using version 28.6 but only with a saved document. Once in Illustrator embedding the image gave the option to separate the image into the original Photoshop layers.

Bill, the current Photoshop version is 26.3.0 and drag&drop does not work with that version.

Sorry, Ton, I misunderstood that you were referencing the Photoshop version that is not working with drag and drop. For the record it does work with Photoshop 25.12 and Illustrator 28.6.

Yes, I understand Bill, the problem is that it is working off and on. In some versions it works, than it stops working and then it works again...

Hi @default0m5qkp10wp7a @susan_jina_4495,
The product team has addressed this issue, and the fix is available in the latest beta version of Illustrator. I’d recommend installing the beta version to regain this functionality while waiting for the next stable update.
Please let me know if you have any questions or need further guidance.
Best,
Anshul
