I'd like to upgrade my older CS to CS6

It depends on your current operating system and which previous version of CS you currently have.  Last I heard, you should still be able to update via Adobe.

Good news! When you subscribe to Creative Cloud, the license also allows you to run a special subscription version of CS6.  (Permanent license sales now finished, beware of anyone who claims to have copies for sale)

That's not good news at all. I don't mind paying for the upgrade as a whole, but I'll be damned if I pay another monthly bill, especially for Creative Cloud. I want nothing to do with that mess.

Oh, two more bits of news you probably won't like. I'm assuming by "CS" you do mean the un-numbered first release of Creative Suite.

1. Your upgrade path for CS ended years ago. If you were to find an upgrade to CS6 being sold you'd need a CS4 or CS5 serial number.

2. If you get a new computer or have a failure, CS can NO LONGER BE REINSTALLED at all.

This isn't an issue anymore, I was able to get my hands on a copy of CS6.

The position is clear. If you don't want to go down the monthly subscription route you need to look at other products.
