Question

I want my default swatch palette to be empty. How do I do this without making a custom swatch panel?

When I open a new Illustrator document, I want my swatch panel to be empty by default. I don't want to have to "select unused" and delete them all manually each time I open a new doc.

I've tried deleting them and saving that workspace without success.

I know there has to be a way to set up my preferences without creating a custom empty swatch panel or saving a template, because I've had it set up this way previously. Unfortunately, I had my preferences reset to fix a performance issue, so now I'm left with no clue how the employee who used to have my computer got it that way.

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks

Tom is correct.

On Mac the users library folder is hidden so you need to click on GO then add option key down, adn choose library
/Users/YOURNAME/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe Illustrator 23/en_US/New Document Profiles

You have to edit the *.ai-files from the "New Documents Profile"-Folder...

Windows:

%appdata%\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator 23 Settings\xx_XX\x64\New Document Profiles

xx_XX: depends on your language...

Thank you for your response! I found the folder and I saved one of the .AI files to my specifications. However, when I open a new document, it doesn't seem to have done anything. What am I missing? Is there a way to "add" that document to the blank document presets?

In the New Document dialog box you have to go to the original document profile tab (Print, or Web or one of the others) and then scroll down to your own saved one.. It's kind of complicated unfortunately.
