If I save document as "[Low Resolution]", have I permanently lost resolution of imported image?

Question

I am a bit confused about how resolution works with Illustrator. Let's say that I have created a document with the "Preset" choice in "Document Setup" set to "[Low Resolution]". I then import a tiff file using "Place", and that tiff file has been made at 300 dpi (or something that is higher resolution than the settings for "[Low Resolution]"). Then after I have done some work on the file, adding things, changing things, saving it, etc., I realize that I want to have the full resolution of the tiff file that I had imported. Can I now change the settings in "Document Setup" to "[High Resolution]" and get the full resolution of the tiff file, as I imported it? Or have I permanently lost that resolution by saving the file under the "[Low Resolution]" setting?

Illustrator files do not have a resolution.

The resolution you are referring to is a setting of the transparency flattener, only used when saving to certain pdf files to remove transparency from the file.

Placing an image file will keep the resolution, it can only change when you scale, rasterize or crop the image or when saving as PDF with certain compression settings.
