This is probably the 50th "Illustrator is slow" post but honestly, what is the freakin issue with this software? Why does it take so long to open some simple files? Why does it take 90+ seconds to save 500mb files. Why is this software so painfully unreliable lately? Why does it take 20+ seconds to load these incredibly simple .ai templates from this website? http://www.uprinting.com/club-card-flyers.html

95% of folks are not Adobe. You might want to be friendly if you expect us to help you.

That said: Nobody knows if those templates are really simple, since we don't have them. We don't know if the people who built them know anything about Illustrator at all or if these have been built with Illustrator at all. Maybe they need to be converted and therefore they are a total mess.

As for your computer: That's a NVIDIA card, right? They have issues which are just being investigated: Please see this thread with participation by NVIDIAstaff: Illustrator CRITICAL Nvidia card bug

Is ap rinter connected to your machine? Illustrator prefers a dedicated printer, no printer queues.

    Are all fonts checked?

I'm telling you they're simple and I also included a link to one of the templates so anyone can see for themselves. It's safe to say a 1mb printing template with a small image and bleed lines should not take 20 seconds to open and become non-responsive in the process. It's also safe to say that one of the largest online printing companies out there knows how to use Illustrator.

The issue is not my computer. We have three PCs we use for graphic design here and all three have the same problems with opening & saving certain files.

The issue is Illustrator. When opening a file like the templates I linked, when you monitor your PCs performance in Task Manager you can see clear as day that Illustrator isn't doing anything or using any system resources. This PC, for example, idles at 0-2% CPU usage. While I sit and wait for Illustrator to open or save files, it sits at 0-3%. Illustrator just isn't doing anything.

This PC is almost as fast as it gets without a ridiculous build and massive overclocking. I shouldn't have to disable features because Illustrator is too poorly written to make use of 97% of the available CPU or the 25gb of unused RAM.

Just do me a favor and go download one of the templates from uprinting and honestly tell me it doesn't take 15-20 seconds to load.
