Illustrator 2017 - turn off in-context alternate glyphs

Is there a way to turn off in-context alternate glyphs in version 2017? A useful feature for some purposes but not for all.

    Found this thread when I went looking for a way to turn this off. See it was never answered and started a new thread to see if we can get this addressed in a future Illustrator update.

    Turn off on-canvas glyph alternatives

    Should be able to turn them off in the Open Type panel.

    Not that I can see. I mean the alternate glyphs that display when one selects a character. In InDesign there is a pref under Advanced Type to turn this off and on.
