Question

Illustrator 2022 (26.2.1) keeps crashing on startup (macOS Monterey 12.3.1)

I'm working on a MacBook Pro M1 Max (2021), running the latest macOS Monterey (12.3.1) as well as the latest Adobe Illustrator 2022 (26.2.1) – however Illustrator simply freezes every single time I'm either attempting to open a new document or existing files or even smart objects in Photoshop.

I've clean installed Illustrator multiple times, even downgraded to versions 26.2 and 26.1, but nothing changes. It renders me completely unable to fulfill my clients' projects although everything – from software to hardware – is state of the art.

How is this possible and what else can I do to help myself?

Hi @defaultj556npvdclnp,

We are sorry about the crashing. I know that's really frustrating. I would request you to please share a few details:

  • Please submit the crash report by following the steps suggested here (https://helpx.adobe.com/in/indesign/kb/submit-crash-reports.html).
While submitting the crash report, please use the same email address with which you are signed in on this community. This will help us find the crash report and help accordingly.
  • The exact version of OS & Ai
  • Does the crash happen randomly or after performing a particular action?
  • Does a crash happen while working on a specific file or all? Is this happening with new or old documents?
  • Where are your files saved (Network Drive/ System HDD/ Shared Folder on System/ External HDD)?
  • Are you using any backup or Antivirus app?
  • When did this start happening? Are there any recent changes made to your system? For example, any antivirus, system updates, plugins, or web extensions installed recently.

Also, I would suggest you try the steps suggested in this community post (https://community.adobe.com/t5/illustrator/resolve-slow-performance-and-unexpected-behaviors-in-illustrator/td-p/11561981)

and share your observations with us.

We will be looking forward to your response.

Thanks & Regards,

Anshul Saini

Hello @boschmann,

Sorry to hear about this experience. I would request you run Illustrator under the root user account and check if it works. If it does, kindly follow these steps under your regular account:

If that does not help, I would request you to please check whether disabling GPU performance and Animated zoom under Illustrator's preferences helps or not.

 Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,

Anubhav

Hi @Anubhav M, thanks for your tips! The chat support has fixed the problem already.

Got in touch with the support – a guy from their "experts team" was able to solve the problem via remote control. Apparently there was an issue with font manager apps. A single terminal command did the job. However, I can only advise you to contact the support (chat bot first, then human and eventually an expert guy). It was a matter of minutes.

Same here. Uninstall = reinstall & removed plug-ins. Nothing seems to be helping...

I am having the exact same problem except I'm on Windows.
