I have been using Illustrator for work for over 20 years. This new update has me completely confused. I can't use the pen tool and manipulate the anchors to make curves like I used to. Its taken me 10+ attempts just to select and move a simple item a 1/2 an inch on my artboard. It has taken me at least 4 times as long to create a file for a client than it did with the 2023 update. When I try to drag guides from the top and side rulers, they add wherever my curser clicks on the ruler, not to where I want to drag the guide. Am I the only one? I'm not using the Magnet app, I've seen that suggested in other posts. Im really only doing very basic things to create a tech pack for clients. I feel like a beginner, learning the basics, if I can't figure out whats wrong...... I don't know what I'm going to do? Can I go back to 2023?

The first things you can do when things are behaving unexpectedly is restarting your machine (which you probably have done after a crash) and resetting the preferences.

If that does not help, uninstalling and re-installing may work (but that may not be possible if you use an old version).

Please tell us your hardware specifications and the document specifications. In Window > Document info you can have Illustrator count the objects for you. In the panel menu you need to select "Objects".
It would help if you could post screenshots of your artwork. And tell us specifically how you made them. Using which tools, effects, transparency and whatnot.
Did you use patterns in the pattern artwork (by accident)? Because that is not allowed.

iI have a brand new Macbook pro with plenty of space and completely updated. Today I opened illustrator, crashed right away when I went to make a pattern on only one part of my design, then it reopened and I was able to create patterns for the last three documents that gave me issues last night. The problem is not my computer or operating system. It is clearly an illustrator problem. And this problem has caused me to loose a lot of money in redoing and trying to figure out why something so simple just did not work. It was not an error on my part or it obviously would not have worked today. I also, like many others here, have been using illustrator since it came out. My guides are locking so even if they are hidden I cannot make a pattern, I cannot delete them. The issues are just random and annoying. Sometimes I can try to select colors with same fill and pattern and it works and many times it does not. Regardless today I was able to finish this job . I hope that Adobe can resolve the issues. Thank you for anyone who tried to help, but as I mentioned it is not a user issue it is a program issue.

If it has less than 16 GB of RAM, then you will get issues with larger files.
If you do not show anything, then it will get difficult to help you. If you think that is a bug, please report it to https://illustrator.uservoice.com Please provide the AI documents, a step by step description of what precisely is happening and your hardware specifications. Because without that, nobody will be able to locate the issue.

Ann I am in complete agreement with you ...I used Illustrator and created anything I wanted or a customer needed with an hour...now I cannot figure out what I am doing and how to get rid of those things I find rediculous to use. Simplicity and art should flow when the ideas are in your head and they do not anymore...I walk away from the computer as the frustrations are wasting my time. Just downloaded the newest reconstruction of Illustrator. Let's see how that has changed my work flow.

If you could do it within an hour, then you will still be able to do that.
And what is it that you do not need?
