Illustrator 2025 29.1 Editing text font changes bug

Using the latest AI version 29.1

When I click in into an existing text box and edit the copy - the font is changed for the new typed text. It doesn't maintain the font of the text that I am editing.

Bug? Any ideas why?

Did you check the recent update?

I was so hopeful the update I did last night would fix this, but nope. Good grief. This is slowing me down daily. Any other ideas for a work around would be most welcome, as nothing from the suggestions listed here has worked for me (but a hearty "thank you!" to those jumping in with ideas).

How long do we have to wait? Can we get a real expected timeline or an idea of how long this will take.

Turn off Missing glyphs protection in Preferences > Type helped fix much of the issue for now.

Same issue with mine as well, when writing in regular, after i delete an aplhabet to continue write, it automatically changed to bold for some reason. So the previous text was in regular font and half way is bold. Why is this happening.

Solution: Revert to previous version of AI

Another temporary solution is to uncheck "Enable Missing Glyph Protection" in the settings panel until Adobe fixes this issue. You can find this setting under the "Illustrator / Settings... / Type..." menu. Not perfect, but at least you don't have to downgrade.

Hello @richards80293164,

I'm sorry to hear about your experience. Would you mind sharing more details, like the OS version, whether Illustrator behaves this way with all files, and a screen recording of your workflow and the problem, so I can better assist you?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Anubhav,

Thanks for your quick response.

I am using an iMac M3 running Sonoma 14.7. Just noticed this odd behaviour after installing latest Illustrator update. It happens with pre existing text boxes from current working files. New documents with newly created text boxes don't seem to have the effect.

See the screen recording I've taken as an example.

Thanks

Richard

Hello @richards80293164,

Thanks for sharing the details and the screen recording. I am able to replicate this behavior on my end. Kindly allow me some time to check this with the team.
