The recovery function is great for the last 20 minutes. Don't ever get yourself into a situation where you rely on it alone.

When there is power outage or your battery dies the very moment Illustrator is saving a file, then that is that. The file is toast.

Hello @Jason29359085ptv8,

I'm sorry to hear about your experience. Would you mind sharing more details, like whether Illustrator crashed when working with a specific tool/feature and whether the file you were working on was saved locally or as a Cloud Document so I can better assist you?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

I was working locally and I'm not sure which tool I was using. It was a very unexpected crash and I am surprised I didn't get a [recovered] file. This has never happened to me

Hello @Jason29359085ptv8,

Thanks for sharing the details. When Illustrator is restarted, the app's auto-recovery process initiates and opens all the unsaved files with the Recovered suffix. If that does not happen, the file is likely lost. I understand this may not be the ideal outcome, and apologize for any inconvenience caused.

To avoid similar situations in the future, I recommend saving multiple copies of your active work locally or as cloud documents.

Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any further questions or need assistance. We're here to help.
