Illustrator 2025 regularly crashes when I open a file [Mac]

Hi,

Every version of Illustrator released so far this year has had the same issue for me. It was fine last year, but as soon as the 2025 version landed, there seems to be a chance it will crash whenever I open a file.

It doesn't matter what file it is. We usually work in PDF but it will also happen when trying to open an .ai file. It doesn't matter how many documents I have open. I can have several open and open one more without a crash, or I can have just one open then it crashes when I go to open a second.

It doesn't matter how many undos I have racked up in the files I have open.

I'm sick of this. It's the most frustrating thing in the world. What is going on?

FWIW, the crash manifests as a spinning ball of death. I can still use other apps so it's not an OS crash, and I need to just force quit Illustrator and open again. I'm on Sequoia 15.3.1, specs: Intel i7, AMD Radeo Pro 5500 XT 8GB. Retina 5K 17" Mac from 2020.

App is up to date (29.3.1), I've tried restarting, changing settings, praying, swearing, threatening violence... nothing seems to work. It's a problem that I've been suffering for several weeks now. I continually hope the next patch will fix it but no.
