Illustrator 23.0 says "cant preview illustration", message says "not enough memory.."

Community Beginner ,

Computers have enough memory. I occurs with any file and file size doesn't matter.

Both of my coworkers computers have the same issue. We had to re-install the previous version.

Our computers are iMac (Retina 5k, 27in late 2015), 3.3. GHz Intel Core i5, 24 GB of Memory.

We have a fix and is available in the pre-release build. Please visit https://adobe.ly/1o2SDsg and get the latest build for version 23.0.1

While the build is prerelease this build is still of production quality. Please feel free to use / recommend it for your day to day activity.

Warm Regards,

Ashutosh Chaturvedi | Sr. Quality Engineering Manager – Illustrator

I also have this issue. Illustrator 22.1 has no problem running with the apps, windows, memory load I run everyday. Now Ill 23. cannot open 2 documents at the same time. My OS X activity monitor indicates there is only 14GB out of 32GB used. I have lots of room on the drive (600+GB).

Confirming the same issue here.

While working on a file in Illustrator (v23) the view will automatically switch to Outline mode and not allow me to switch to Preview mode due to the "not enough memory" error.

Memory is sufficient and the issue only started to occur once v23 was installed.

Normally if I quit Illustrator and reopen it, I can work for a short while before it happens again. After this happened 4 times in one hour, I reinstalled the previous version.

Same file and 3 hours later... still no issues on version 22.1.

I have the same issue since new version.

Updated yesterday, especially when I use zoom, Illustrator automatically switches to Outline preview, after that I can't work anymore in the program and it crashes with the same message: "not enough memory".

Same issue here. Get a popup saying 'Can't finish previewing' and the document changes to outline preview. Have to close and reopen illustrator for it to work, only for it to happen again in about 30mins or so. There is plenty of available ram. Only started with the latest version 23.0

Same issue here.

I uninstalled the whole v 23.0. It's crashing all the time and feels to most unstable version yet. I installed the 21.1.0 version (previous) and now all the files are opened in Photoshop, unless I click "open with"(mac) from the dropdown.

Probably need to uninstall the whole Create Cloud and start again with previous versions.

Yes that is what I did, installed the previous version. I'll probably wait till they have a new patch or update.

I'm having a similar issue as well. Illustrator 23.0 runs sluggishly to the point of being unusable. After a few minutes I get a "Can't Preview" error or similar and the drawing part of the application disappears although the UI and tools are still selectable. Reverted back to 22.1 in order to get projects moving. NOTE: I am running a Beta version of Mojave.

I have the same issue. Using a Mac and running OS 10.12.6. It would be really nice if Adobe would respond to this or at least make it easy to call or chat with someone about it.

Chiming in here as well. I'm a professional graphic designer, plenty of RAM and been running Illustrator with no issues like this at all and then upgraded to Version 23 and am now getting the RAM issue/can't preview and all that. I have to quit Illustrator and restart it to temporarily fix the issue.

Same here.

Hey, Adobe, how about you stop focusing on blue balloons and start to fixing your app before you release it?

Do you know how many hours of work you take away with these "new features"?

And beyond the crashes I have to click EVERY SINGLE TIME to close those blue balloons.

Please, stop to treat Adobe Illustrator as a mobile app. We are working here. Every time you release an update is a mess. Get your s**hit together and make it work.

Not to minimize the problem and not blaming either, but a) They didn't force you to upgrade your app. If time is money, let other folks find the bugs and b) the last version is a five minute re-install.

That said, this one seems wide-spread enough to warrant some good complaining about quality. I'm running this version and seem to be able to get a fair bit done between crashes, but I'm still doing my work in 22 so it has been more PITA than devastating.

Nonsense:

a - They encourage upgrading - see an Adobe employee just yesterday Re: CS6 - Align To Pixel Grid Abscence Causing Snapping Hell . Products should be fully tested prior to release.

Hey, that's a great suggestion! Right, from now on here's what I'm going to do:

  1. When I see an update on my CC app, I will ignore and not update it (because I'm not forced to)
  2. And just because I have a LOT of free time, I'm going to read ALL posts on this forum to check if the update is good!
  3. Then I'll look for bugs on the forum and wait for the next update to actually update my Adobe Illustrator. (wait, but I have to check if the next update is good, so, get back to step 1)

Sorry buddy. Thanks for your message. Of course I'm not forced to update, but I work with another 15 professionals. Do you know how painful is to tell everyone to NOT UPDATE and stick to the previous version? Yeah, because the previous version doesn't open AI from the new version. That's great huh?

I pay Adobe EVERY SINGLE MONTH for a working product. It's THEIR responsibility to make it work and release it after extensive testing. They release unfinished products because they have to meet deadlines for their precious Adobe Max event. And who pays for that? Us, consumers with crappy software.

It's what I've been doing for 30 years now, give or take, in small & large art studios as well as freelance. As a result, I can count on one hand the number of times a buggy software update has interfered with my workflow. But I am sorry that my comments annoyed you, I should of worded things differently I guess.

In other news, I worked quite a bit in 23 yesterday and didn't see this problem pop up at all. Not entirely sure what to make of that as I can't see anything much different in either the files or what I was doing compared to earlier in the week.
