Question

Illustrator 3D and Materials is not working, objects become invisible and no materials are seen

I'm trying to use Illustrator 3D features to manipulate objects and text, but none of this works even with the simplest of shapes.

For example, if I draw a rectangle with black fill color and I click on any 3D Type, like "plane", "extrude" or "inflate", the effect is not applied and the object turns transparent. The only thing shown on the screen is the working path with the central dial that allows to rotate the object around the axis - which doesn't work as well, since I can't see the object. Furthermore, under the Materials panel I can only see the default material.

I'm sure the software is updated and the GPU is compatible with it, if this is in any way relevant with the issue. What can I try to do to solve this? Help me guys

Hello @Matteo5FB2,

Sorry to hear about this experience. Would you mind updating the GPU drivers (https://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/multi/update-graphics-driver.html) if you're using a Windows computer and checking if it helps?

If you're using a Mac, kindly try resetting Illustrator's preferences by following the steps shared in this article (https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/kb/troubleshoot-preference-issues.html) and sharing your observations.
Disclaimer: Please note that resetting preferences will remove all custom settings, and Illustrator will launch with the defaults. You may save a backup of these settings from the location mentioned in the article.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thanks,
Anubhav

Is your color management set to something other than "Emulate Illustrator 6"?

Nope, it's set to North America General Purpose 2 🙂

Please tell us about your hardwre, particularly the amount of RAM. Anything less than 16 GB probably might not work too well.
