Illustrator CC freezes computer

Illustrator freeze after working on a file for a while. Sometimes it happens when I try to save, other times if I switch to work on another application and go back to Illustrator.

The worst part is that it freezes the whole computer (2017 Macbook Pro) and I have to reboot the whole thing. It all started after the last update that came out last week (3-7 April 2017).

Initially I thought it was related to saving directly on CC cloud, but now I'm working locally and it still happening.

Hi Frank,

I was having a similar issue and it was a problem with my CC desktop app. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it with this link from adobe: Adobe Creative Cloud. Before you do that though, I updated the software on my Mac and updated Illustrator with the newest update. Let me know if any of that helps. If not, I had a friend that fixed the issue with what Om suggested above.

Best,

Megan

Hi Frank,

Sorry to hear that. If I am correct, this started happening after the last update? Are you using Mac OS 10.12.4? If yes, please try disabling the GPU in the Illustrator preferences and then check.

Thanks for your response. I tried what Om suggested, that worked but I couldn't use the GPU performance in my new mac.

Then I saw the second message from Megan, when I tried to uninstall Adobe CC Manager it gave me two options; uninstall / repair. I clicked Repair, and that fixed the issue with freezing illustrator / my computer.

On a side note, the Animated Zoom (which is also related to GPU performance) is actually working better. Before doing this 'repair' when I used the animated zoom in a document with multiple Artboards it would display some gibberish of the art work for a few seconds, and I had to zoom in or out again to get rid of it. This is not happening anymore.
