I am using version 27.5. For some reason, whn I am placeing PNG, even though the have the sRGB profile embeded, my illustrator document keeps changng colors every time I open the file. I've using color setting for several years, but this issue only happnes with this file. What's wrong with PNG?

Exactly how are you placing them?

What is happening? The colors in the document look differently/have different numbers? Or the document gets a different color profile?

Boths instances: the color look different and they actually change values. The document is still using the sRGB profile.

I have attached a comparison.

What do you get for messages when you turn on the checkboxes for missing/mismatched profiles?

Is it a specific PNG? Do you Place or drag & drop?

All PNG have the same sRGB profile as well as jpg's in the document, so there is no mismatch. My work around (last night), was to convert and replace all png for jpgs. In the case I needed transparent background, I used PSD files instead. I use both methods: Place aswell as drag and drop.

Did you check themissing/mismatched profiles options in your Color Settings?

Your screendumps also show CMYK swatches defined as RGB, when did that happen?

Did you change a CMYK document to RGB?

I have no mismatched profiles. I haven't change anything. Nor the document color mode nor color profiles.
If I create a new document and doucle click on any swatch, the name is defined by the CMYK values. What's interesting is that the whole values gets corrupted affecting the apearance.

I had to recolor my document with rgb swatches, but when closing the file and opening it again, thats when I get the new darker tone colors.
The names of the swatch shows CMYK values, but thats the only thing that keeps unchanged: the name of the swatch.

Your swatches panel show swatches that are normally defined in a CMYK preset.

What do you choose when you create a new document? This looks like a CMYK document set to RGB.

In that case you cannot expect CMYK values to be stable. You can input the numbers, but they will imediately be converted to RGB. And when you re-open them, you have different numbers.

If you want to work with CMYK colors, then set up a CMYK file.

CMYK values is not the issue. The issue is all swatch color changes when PNG are imported. This happens without changing color mode of the documents or color profile.

Please describe step by step what you are doing and which colors change.

The changes in your swatches have nothing to do with the PNG. They change, because you cannot define CMYK swatches in an RGB file.

You are not dragging the image from Photoshop directly into Illustrator, no?

I opened a new RGB document with and sRGB profile, then I drag or place (both methods) jpgs and png. All looks good at that point.I close my document. Then I reopened it to make new adjustments (because clients aaaaalways have adjustments), and now all, not just some swatches, all the swatches have gone darker and all their values are different. Now I need to update my client's logo with the right swatches. As I select all the elements with wrong swatches, I can see the differece when applying the good ones. So I continue working, then close the file, and next time I open it, all swatches have gone wild.

I open my PSD files in Photoshop and export the files as PNG with sRGBprofile. (Edit > Export > Quick Export as PNG). Some ONG are given to me from my client, so I open those, apply the sRGB profile and save it. Sometimes I drag the files from the finder, or directly replace it from the links panel. No, I never drag them from PS. About CMYK swatches: All the default swatches that load when you create a new document are the ones thats shifts, Not just the swatches from my client, all of them, as you can see is the swatches panels I uploaded ealier. Something is wrong with PNG, because I reformated all my PNG as JPG and everything now is working fine. My guess is that some app coding might need to be rewritten.

Glad you found a solution.

But about those CMYK swatches: there can't be CMYK swatches in an RGB document. It's not possible. So there could also be something about how you create a new document or your New document profiles that is throwing off your workflow.

Can you create a new RGB document, based on an RGB preset (like art & illustration), copy the contents into this file and see if it still happens?

I have done it 3 times. Each time I opened a new RGB document then copied all my work into it. In the beginning it looks right. When I close the file and reopen it I find all my swatches ara darker now. As I stated, earlier, I replaced all PNG with JPGS and now it is fine. Weird.

Good to hear you've got your color consistent now.

But it should work with your PNG files too.

Can you share such a problem PNG file?
