Hi, uninstall the software via Creative Cloud Cleaner tool, this way you will also delete any corrupt files. When finished, reinstall Adobe Illustrator and see if the problem persists.

You might want to contact Customer Care so they can take a look at it: https://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html

The chat is in the bottom right.

Hello @jean-philippe_1642,

I'm sorry to hear you're having the same trouble in Illustrator. Would you mind confirming the version of the OS/Illustrator and if Illustrator behaves this way when using a particular effect/file so I can better assist you?

Also, check for any pending OS/Illustrator updates, and install them to see if it helps.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hello @jean-philippe_1642,

Thank you for the details. To assist you further, could you confirm if you’re using any plugins or extensions in Illustrator? Additionally, it would be helpful to know:

1. What other apps are open in the background when this happens?

2. Where the file is stored (local drive, external drive, or network drive/ server).

3. Can you share a screen recording demonstrating the issue and confirm if it’s caused by a particular effect or all effects?

4. Is this issue happening in a specific file, or does it occur with all files, including new ones?

This will help us narrow down the cause. Looking forward to your response!

Best,

Anshul Saini

Hi Anshul,

1. No other apps open.
2. Local storage (no iCloud sync on).
3. I don’t have a recording but it happened even when I did nothing. It did
not make a difference whether I had opened a specific document, started a
new document, or neither (just waited out after starting Illustrator
without doing anything). It all ended the same way.
4. Answered in 3.

Cheers
JP

Hi,

@divine_knowledge Sorry to hear you're experiencing this issue. Monika is right—we need more details to assist you better. Could you share a few more specifics, such as which effects you were using, along with your OS and Illustrator version, in addition to the details Anshul requested?

@jean-philippe_1642 Thank you for sharing the details. I hope the issue is resolved now. If not, I recommend resetting your preferences. If you have custom settings like presets and workspaces, please make sure to back up your folders first. The steps are shared here.

Regards,

Srishti

Hi everyone,

The issue is back. It drives one slightly insane. Especially when one pays for a service that cannot be used.

Attaching a screen recording: It crashes every single time.

Even tried going offline completely. Still happens.

Deinstalling and re-installing Illustrator did not help (even the whole CC and deleting all remaining CC files did not help).

Currently on version 29.1

Please fix this fast!

Thank you

JP

The video is quite blurry, it's not clear what you are doing.

Can you please describe?

18 GB of RAM is not a lot.

If it is blurry, then it has either to do with your uploading system or
your device. It is an 8K recording. Candidly speaking, it does not inspire
much confidence at this point.
In the video I am only opening a doc with a simple path. And clicking on
a text element with the default Illustrator font Myriad.
But what I do does not matter. Even if I do nothing, the same happens.

@jean-philippe_1642 Sorry for the frustration, and thanks for sharing the video. It clearly shows that this is an unusual behavior that needs immediate attention.

My first recommendation is to update the app to the latest version and then try launching your machine in safe mode. Let us know if the issue persists there.

Looking forward to your response!

After you mentioned my RAM, I checked with colleagues who have the exact
same configuration: They can run After Effects, Premiere, have 50 tabs open
in Chrome and Safari, 10 Slack windows and manage 8 desktops, and no
crashes.
I also check the CPU monitor to see if RAM was the issue: As expected, even
if I close all other software, open just Illustrator without opening a
file, the damn thing crashes after 2 min, watch in hand. The CPU & RAM
monitor showed that Illustrator was using less than 10% of the available
power.
Illustrator still kindly asks me whether I want to save before closing
every time though. But not closing is not an option.
Photoshop just goes into non-responding mode and I have to force quit.
Safari: same.
