Question

Illustrator could partially read this file while opening a file in Illustrator v25.4.1 on Windows 10

Hello wonderful people who are smarter than I am.

My name is Paul and I just got a new computer and downloaded Adobe Illustrator to change up my logo and such.

I'm not an expert at Illustrator more of a beginner.

I have a file that I used before and when I try to open it up it says

"Illustrator could partially read this file.

We recovered as much of the file as possible, but some contents might be missing. Open to view the file."

But it comes out as blank.

Here is the real problem though, I have a friend who also works with Illustrator with the same version as I am (25.4.1), and she can open it just fine without any problems. Is it just my program? I tried to open it in .eps, tried updating the software and everything and can't figure it out.

If anyone out there has a solution please kindly help me from ripping my hair out.

Thank you in advance.

Hi there,

Sorry to hear about the trouble you are facing. I would like to know if the steps suggested above by @Anna Lander worked for you?  In addition to the question asked by @Bill Silbert @Anna Lander, I would request to share a few more details like:

  • Do you recall the version of Illustrator in which you created this file?
  • Where did you originally save the file (Network Drive/ System HDD/ Shared Folder on System/ External HDD)?
  • Could you please share the document with us? You can upload it to the Creative Cloud (https://helpx.adobe.com/in/creative-cloud/help/share.html) and share the download link.
  • Change the file extension from .ai to .pdf and check if it is opening in Adobe Acrobat.

I will be looking forward to your resposne.

Thanks & Regards,

Anshul Saini

Hello, thanks for looking into it.

I have shared the file https://shared-assets.adobe.com/link/a3bca357-e967-4d59-4f18-1c27a1c15467

however, I cannot change it to a pdf format at this moment because I cannot open it.

The version was 2019 and it was saved through my hard drive.

The old computer that I had was a macbook pro and now I'm running Windows. Maybe this is the reason why?

Please let me know what I can do.. I am totally lost at this point.

Thank you!

How did you transfer the files from your old computer to the new one?

Via Creative Cloud?

And just as a side note: your file works fine with me (Mac OS)

It might be useful to try this way.
https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/cc-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html

Some settings don't reset during the normal re-installation, Cleaner can help to totally clean the memory.

This was a powerful tool. It completely erased all adobe! I am impressed. However, it did not solve the issue..

Thanks tho! I learned something new!

May it be that there was something wrong with getting the file from the old comp to the new one? Can you take it from your friend's comp another way? Does it happen just with this file or with some others as well?

Hello Anna!

So I sent my friend the original file as .ai via email and she could open it with no trouble at all. She saved it as a different file and sent it again via email with no luck.. Then she saved it as as .eps file and my illustrator says it could not open it. Then she proceeded to send it through google drive which it also did not work..

I tried to uninstall and install the software but didnt't seem to do anything..

Thanks!

What operating system are you using? If you are using a Macintosh does it have the new M1 chip or is it using the older Intel chip?
