I’m experiencing an issue with Adobe Illustrator where I cannot copy anything. Both Ctrl+C and right-click > Copy cause the software to crash immediately. This has been happening repeatedly throughout the day.
Could you please advise on the cause and any possible solution? It’s really frustrating that Illustrator can’t handle such a basic function like copying without crashing.
Hello @Nadia37972677f0tk,
We have received reports from several customers that the latest Windows Defender security intelligence update - 1.435.148.0 has potentially fixed this issue.
Could you try installing the update and letting us know if it helps?
Looking forward to hearing from you.

Installed 29.7.1 a few days ago and it was working fine. How is it that suddenly this critical bug has been introduced without any further updates? Are changes being made to our applications behind the scenes that we are not aware of?

To be fair, it could have been a change on the MS Windows side, or any other application that everyone uses. In this thread alone there are dozens of users that have this error and I think a lot are sending the error report as well so hopefully they can figure it out quickly.

So, still no fix after 8 days? It's really frustrating when you are not able to copy and paste anymore.

It’s been a week since this issue began, and the problem still persists. I would really appreciate it if this could be prioritized.
Yesterday, I had a major design event in my department, and I was completely unable to use Illustrator, this had a direct impact on our work. The longer this continues, the more the consequences are growing.
I understand the team is working on a solution, but I’d like to kindly ask that you also consider the client experience. There has been no workaround or compensation offered so far, and from a user’s perspective, this is extremely frustrating.
Please advise urgently on any updates.

If anyone is looking for workarounds. You can hold alt key and drag the object to copy. Also, in ver 28.xxx the Contextual Task Bar has a duplicate button which acts the same as holding alt key while dragging. Unfortunately, for some reason in 29.xx it has been removed.

Workaround works for now...
We also encounter the copy/paste crash on multiple systems. The only system that doen not have the issue is the system that is on a seperate network and not updated reguraly with win11 updates...

What Kind of Computer is everyone working on?
I am on a Dell, as is my Coworker. I started experiencing the issue on Monday the 4th.
My coworker's computer started crashing with this this morning.
She just went through a Dell Update. Could it be due to this update?

I'm using Windows 11 Enterprise, version 24H2.
I've noticed that in new files, copy-paste works fine—until I choose "Open" from the menu. After that, the Ai crashes in the new file.

The majoriy of my art department is now exriencing this issue. Rolling back versions did not help, and our company's IT team will not allow the disabling of Microsoft Defender. It's been a real drag on our ability to get work done. We'd really appreciate this getting fixed ASAP.

Seems like this is a PC Microsoft update issue. I am on a Mac and have the latest OS and latest Illustrator and there are no issues. I'm here trying to help someone who has this issue on Windows 11 , their entire graphics department can't do their work today because of this problem. I'm going to message Bill Gates and tell him about this, and I'll ask him to make MS Word suck less while he's at it.
Get ready! An upgraded Adobe Community experience is coming in January.
