Illustrator CS3 keeps crashing on macOS 10.6.8

I have an old MAC OSX Version 10.6.8 that I run the Adobe Creative Suite 3 Design Standard on for personal use. I have had this computer partitioned a while ago but now I am unable to launch some of the programs. Yesterday I couldn't open Illustrator it just keeps crashing, previously it's been Acrobat. Is there anyway I can get these up and running again???

Hi Rebecca,

 

Sorry to hear about the trouble you are facing with Illustrator. I am hopeful that the issue is resolved by now. If not, please try resetting preferences for Illustrator by following these steps:

  • Close all Adobe applications.
  • Go to locations
  • ~/Library/Caches
  • ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe
  • ~/Library/Preferences
  • Rename Adobe Illustrator, com.adobe.illustrator and Adobe Illustrator CS3 Settings folders to Adobe Illustrator.old, com.adobe.illustrator.old and Adobe Illustrator CS3 Settings.old
  • Launch Illustrator from the Creative Cloud.

 

Please note that resetting preferences will remove all the custom settings and Illustrator will launch with default settings. This way all your old settings will be saved in .old folders and Illustrator will recreate new folders with default settings.

Please contact Customer Care. You need to get a different installer and serial number. They are the only ones that can give it to you. In case your application is not registered, you will need proof of purchase.

Thanks Monika, that rings a bell, I have actually received new serial no. for the whole Adobe Creative Suite 3. Is that the one you mean, not sure about the installer but I will contact Adobe Customer Care! Thanks

The new serial number probably needs a dedicated installer.
