Illustrator CS4 error: Object label badly formatted?

has anyone received an error in illustrator CS4: Acrobat PDF File Format is having difficulties. Object label badly formatted? I am ON a mac and cannot open files after this error, help?

Thomas - fab work by you and the team - thank you for such a speedy resolution. Our non intel mac system now all updated and sorted via the now working auto download. Also heard back from UK support with file request for any future related problems - but here is hoping that is not necessary. All very very impressive. Thanks

I updated Fusion 2 (Sept. 14, 2009) as well and having the same issue. Tried everything to restore but nothing seems to work. A quick temporary fix is to turn off auto-activation in both fusion 2 and illustrator CS4, this is working for now. A real pain having to activate fonts the old school way, but if it works until the software gods fix this mess I'll suffer through it.

There are some differences in how Adobe Illustrator CS3 references/stores font information in its file, compared to CS4.

I am happy to report I received an email from Extensis with bad files/fonts so they can recreate the problem... I will get to that after all my deadlines, which keep growing as the week progresses... I am happy to report we are getting closer to a fix, but sad to report that we are also getting more users with the same issue (happens after the suitcase2 update to 13.2)... more to come...

Does anyone know of an easy way to downgrade to the original Fusion 2 software (13.0.0) ?

I think at this point I want to just downgrade since it sounds like it is directly related to the update.

Tried reverting back and my Suitcase Fusion Core wouldn't turn on/

work. I would call extensis before trying this.

Thanks Thomas for the explanation, that is also consistent (from what I remember) with my files that corrupted... Looking forward to the update and not switching to agent font pro... I have been a suitcase user since way back when... all i can say is Apple MacIntosh FX anyone?

I think the new update is simply saying it is comatible with Snow Leopard, you dont have to upgrade to 10.6 to install this update.

I am running 10.5.8 I downloaded the update from the link, kindly posted by Pep, and manually installed with no errors or issues.

Will try to save a .ai with text on and off artboard later to see if the problem happens again, but suicase is running fine on my OS.

I also have 10.5.8 and everything is working just fine after

downloading the update from the link.

(You can reach Extensis' technical service by phone - they can fix

damaged files for you. See nr in the mentioned page)

thanks for the feedback guys. i updated suitcase with the new fix (i'm running OSX 10.5.8). everything seems to be running smoothly. i did a few tests on and off the artboard with text, overlapping, with gradients and transparancies - so far so good!

Thank you Thomas Phinny and the Extensis support team for attending to this issue so quickly - the best customer service/support I have seen in a long time.

I also had these problems on MAC OS 10.5.8, not snow leopard (have heard good and bad snow leopard problems) and run a studio with both INTEL and POWER PC mac pro and G5s... I am confused as to the best way to update? (auto update from suitcase 2 OR download a zip file from the extensis website?)  HELP?

If you're experiencing this issue, I would highly suggest contacting Extensis tech support; In the past, like many others, I have looked for solutions on forums and boards such as this one with contacting tech support my last option. We were lucky to only have this issue affect 2 files. I contacted tech support and was asked to send the files. The files were fixed and sent back to me. Yes, they fixed the files for me, and it was done quickly and courteously. Thumbs up to extensis for dealing with this issue quickly and professionally-you've restored my faith in calling tech support.

BTW we are running non-intel macs with OS 10.5.8, Suitcase Fusion 2 13.2.0, since updated to 13.2.1.

I have spent some major quality time doing moderately complex projects in CS4 since the night they released the fix and am happy to report it has been solid as a rock.  I also got an unsolicited email from Extensis support following up (I didn't even file a ticket with them), and offering to fix any files I had problems with before the patch.

The support and customer service has been impressive.  Equally impressive is the fact that Extensis stepped up, took responsibility, actively pursued the issue and fixed it quickly.

In an age of completely useless customer support in every area, from software to online banking, it is refreshing to see some actual concern, accountability and response for a change.  It is only a shame that this is unique and not the norm.

Thank you to the team at Extensis.  No software will ever be perfect so the trust has to lie in the support of it.

They have certainly earned mine.

THIS IS THE SOLUTION:

Copy the bad .ai file.

Open in a text editor - TextEdit in my case.

Open up another .ai file - that is not screwed up - in the same editor.

From this good file, copy from about the third line down:

"1 0 obj..."

...all the way down to...

"...2 0 obj"

Replace the equivalent section in the corrupt file with this text and save.

Close and it should now be okay and can be opened with Illustrator CS4.

I hope this helps.

It's so much more practical than hanging the damaged file on Extensis'

ftp and have to wait 48h for them to fix it!

If only Extensis learned to post such easy fixes!
