Illustrator CS4 freezing on launch on Windows 8.1

I just purchased Adobe CS4 Web Premium.  Everything seems to have loaded and Photoshop works.  However, when I try to open AI it begins until it gets to Initializing Plug-ins, then it stops, never finishing to open.  What can I do to remidy this problem?

Sorry to hear about this issue. CS applications have been discontinued and is no longer compatible with today's operating systems. I am afraid attempts to troubleshoot the install could result in it becoming unusable.

Also, as Monika mentioned above,  as of 9 January 2017 Creative Suite is no longer available for purchase from Adobe. I would suggest that if you can return the product and get your money back. We strongly recommend upgrading your software to a newer version that is supported, that way, we can provide you tech support and access to the latest updates and bug fixes.

Windows 8 is not entirely out of range for CS4 but anything pre CC suite tends to fail if you've been keeping your OS up to date. 

 

You'll probably need an older OS not connected to the web.

You just purchased it? Buying a legitimate version is close to impossible.
