Illustrator CS6 doesn't open and Illustrator CC trial version doesn't install in High Sierra

Hi,

I have preinstalled licensed version of CS6, and it was working perfectly fine until I updated my OSx to High Sierra. Since I need illustrator urgently for my work, I tried to install a trial version of Illustrator CC to check if that works well on High Sierra before going for the purchase. Unfortunately, I am unable to install it via Adobe creative cloud since it doesn't show any tab for apps, and when I try to update it, its update is not finishing even in 1-2 hr. When I tried to download illustrator CC installation file and tried to install it on my computer, after two clicks on installation file it asks for open permission and after granting that permission it stops installation before even starting.

I would be very grateful if you could help me with this issue as soon as possible.

Thank you.

I just install Illustrator CS6 from the Creative Cloud menu, and it open ok in High Sierra. There is a cleaner tool that can remove any leftover bits from a previous uninstall. Here's a page that describes how to download and use it:

Use the Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems

Make sure not to use the Clean All option, that would remove all Adobe apps.

Also, make sure you're using the latest Creative Cloud desktop app:

Download Creative Cloud desktop app

Hi Colin,

Thank you for prompt response. Is there any other way to resolve the issue instead of uninstalling all the files. Can I use my currently installed CS6 by resolving the following error. Screen Shot 2017-10-27 at 14.33.43.png

Thank you.

That dialog gives me another idea. You could reset the preferences. Hold down the option, command, and shift keys, immediately after double clicking Illustrator to open it. You can release the keys once the splash screen is showing. That will reset the preferences to the default state, which may solve the issue.

Thank you Colin. It did work to an extent that it allowed to open Illustrator and also existing files with following messages in different files:

but after that, I don't see options to edit/making files and all toolbars are gone.

Yes, I was surprised by the blankness of it all. I had forgotten what CS6 looked like. When you do File/New, all the panels will appear as you start a new document.

My CS6 install is working ok, and the StrokeOffset file is in the Adobe Illustrator CS6/Plug-ins/Extensions folder ok.

I've put a copy of the Extensions folder here:

You could see what ones are missing, or just replace your folder with my one.

Hi Colin,

Thank you for the link and reply. I compared Extension folder. It contains all the files but still CS6 is not working as it should, and I still face issues in opening CS6 if I don't press shift+command+option keys as you mentioned before. But, since I needed illustrator urgently, I have bought AI CC 2017, which is working fine on High Sierra. Although, I did need customer care support to fix Creative Cloud application and to download AI CC installation files.

CC 2017 had some nice features, and CC 2018, which is what I have under High Sierra, has even nicer features.

If you do test CC 2018 again, when you go to Update in the CC menu Apps tab, there should be an Advanced option, which would let you keep CC 2017 installed until you're sure CC 2018 is working ok.
