Illustrator documents open as Outlines

Hello, I have saved a portfolio with about 25 artboard pages into one file. It seemed to open up just fine acouple months ago and now when I come to view it, it doesn't fully show me the work just some outlines and photo boarders(blank white spaces too). Prior to this I have embeded all media links to ensure I can open up without being reliant on the links or open on other devices. I have a feeling it maybe because of file size but, another thing I think it might be is because my license ended and now that I have re purchased a new one it disrupted the file. 

I have attached screenshots of the thumbnail which is what I want VS when I open the file, what my problem is.
