Illustrator CS5.5 is not supported for Windows 10. Even if you've been able to run it successfully up until now you should be aware that Windows 10 frequently makes automatic updates to itself which often cause older, unsupported vesrions of Illustrator to either start running erratically or stop running altogether. If you want to continue using CS5.5 successfully try to run your PC in Windows 7 compatibility mode or buy an older PC (from ebay possibly) that has Windows 7 running natively and run CS5.5 on that.

Illustrator CS5.5 is a 32 bit application - you can throw as much RAM at it as you want: it cannot use that. Don't expect magic from it.

Without any idea about your file and its contents nobody can tell you much. if it uses insane DPI settings, high-DPI raster effects or a bazillion objects with a quintrillion paths and points this could be perfectly normal.
