Illustrator File>Place (Place PDF) Crop To: Settings Aren't Retained When Reopening File

When I place (LINK) a pdf into Illustrator, and have the "SHOW IMOPORT OPTIONS" checked, the setting I choose for "CROP TO:" is not retained if I save the file and reopn it at a later time. For example, I place choosing "CROP TO: BLEED", save my working file, and then then next time I open the file the placed pdf is instead cropped to "TRIM", causing alignment issues and such within the fie. Please help. Thanks in advance.
