Illustrator forces Creative Cloud desktop app to open

Sometimes when I open an .Ai file from my local drive, it triggers the Creative Cloud desktop app to launch. (I don't usually keep it open)

There are no linked CC Library assets in the files that I'm aware of. It's more or an annoyance than a problem. What might be causing this, and how can I prevent it?

Hi @Kalow,

Thank you for bringing up the issue you're facing with Adobe Illustrator triggering the Creative Cloud desktop app to launch when opening .Ai files from your local drive. I understand that this can be an annoyance for you.

Would you mind pausing libraries sync in the CCDA? If you don't use Creative Cloud Libraries at all, you can try disabling the Libraries sync feature in the Creative Cloud desktop app. To do this, open the Creative Cloud desktop app, click on the cloud icon, and uncheck the "File Syncing" option.

If the issue persists after trying this, would you mind confirming the Ai & CCDA version and Ai file location/ complete destination? Also, it would be really helpful if you could share the file with us.

I hope this helps resolve the issue, and please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.

Best,

Anshul

Could be... most recently it was when I opened a file someone else created.

I wonder if Illustrator can activate fonts alone or needs CC running in the background.

I assume Illustrator communicates with CC (since you need to be signed in to load fonts), but it won't do it automatically unless that option is checked under File Handling in Illustrator's Preferences. That's a recent preference addition to Illustrator that I think was introduced since CC2022. I personally have that turned off to prevent conflicts with my computer's fonts.

I am guessing that is necessary from time to time to check your account.

But you may want to ask this here:

Maybe. But it's only been happening for a few months. Could be a change after an update.
