Illustrator Freezes when Using Object>Transform>Move

Explorer ,
Oct 08, 2025 Oct 08, 2025

Title says it all.

Illustrator works fine with all other functions except for the Object>Transform>Move tool. When using it the whole app freezes and I cannot even quit. Attached video for reference.

Here are some other measures that I have tried to solve the problem:

  • Restart the computer
  • Reinstall Illustrator
  • Update the graphic driver (to NVIDIA Studio Driver 581.29 for RTX4070)
  • Reset Illustrator preferences

Note that Windows is up to date.

Here are the specifications of my computer & Illustrator:

  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070
  • CPU: 13th Gen Intel Core i9-13900KF
  • RAM: 32.0 GB 4800 MHz (31.8 GB usable)
  • OS: Windows 11 Home 24H2
  • 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
  • Illustrator 29.8.2, no plugins installed

Any help is greatly appreciated.

It seems that that's a problem associate with the positioning of the pop-up window. I changed from using a dual-monitor set up to a singal-moniror one earlier this week and the pop-up window of the move tool hides to the very cornor of the moniror (you can see from the video, its on the bottom right cornor), ever so slightly to be seen. I just solved the issue by simply dragging it out.

As this is a long-lasting issue that people face from time to time (e.g. these posts https://community.adobe.com/t5/illustrator-discussions/popup-window-lost-outside-my-screens/m-p/13750153
