I am sorry but have to vent my frustrations with how unbelievably terrible Illustrator is. It is the least user friendly program that has been invented and NOTHING works like common sense would lead you to think it would. EVERYTHING is a complicated and a complete DISASTER no matter how small the task. EVERYTHING that I tried to do would always give me a problem and I spent the last 3 hours Googling the issues I was having until I have just finally given up because life is too short to deal with this ABOMINATION piece of software.
Here are my searches:
How to place an object in illustrator and fit to artboard
How to fit picture in Adobe Illustrator
Adobe Illustrator How to place an image as the same size as the document
Adobe Illustrator how to denoise
Adobe Illustrator exports wrong size
Adobe Illustrator how to change document size
Adobe Illustrator smooth tool not working
Adobe Illustrator how to smooth jagged edges
Adobe Illustrator how to group layers
Adobe Illustrator how to increase size of smooth tool
Adobe Illustrator how to bring up tool options
Adobe Illustrator how to make a guide
Adobe Illustrator cannot use eraser tool
Adobe Illustrator eraser tool brings up circle with line through it
Adobe Illustrator crop image not working or saving
Adobe Illustrator remove part of layer
Adobe Illustrator how to place an image into document
Adobe Illustrator transparency background is covering up layers below the new layer
I feel sorry for anyone that has to use it on a daily basis. I don't know what the people at Adobe do all day but the Illustrator people need to get to work and fix a bug or two so that you don't want to kill yourself out of frustration just trying to erase part of a layer.

Perhaps presumptuous, but your searches sound like those of someone who might be trying to do a job better done in Photoshop.

Many of those questions would be solved by either taking a class or by carefully reading the documentation. These days you cannot expect to be able to just use professional level software by just jumping into it. The software is made to assist those people who use it daily with their everyday tasks and those tasks are complex.

Sounds like you're having a rough time learning the basics. If you decide to persevere with learning Illustrator, you could ask a single question here on the forum (be clear, specific, and polite) and you'll likely get a quick solution. Doing a course on the basics might be time very well spent though too.

Not everyone struggles to learn Illustrator, but in my 14 years of teaching it, most do. Take a class. It's difficult to learn software from a video when you know nothing. Take a class with an actual live instructor. Once you have the basics down you can learn from watching videos. Searching for answers is also difficult when you are beginner - you don't know the vocab and jargon to search for. I'm sorry you are struggling, it takes lots of time and experience to become proficient in Adobe applications.

Hi @LastFirstMiddle,
That sounds incredibly frustrating, especially when you're just trying to get your work done. I'd love to help figure this out with you. Could you let me know the version of Illustrator you’re using and the details of your operating system? Also, does this happen with a specific file or with all files? And where are your files stored, on your local drive, an external one, a network location, or the cloud?
I checked using the email tied to your community profile but couldn't find any submitted crash reports. If possible, please submit a crash report using the steps here: https://adobe.ly/4mbLZgS and then send me the email address used in the crash submission via DM, so I can locate the logs and have the team take a closer look.
In the meantime, please try the steps in this guide and let me know if you notice any improvement: https://adobe.ly/3GUCq68
Looking forward to your update.
Abhishek
