Illustrator hang, doesnt load and crashes after updating to Sonoma

Since updating to sonoma I've had a number of issues with illustrator.

Sometimes it doesn't load and hangs on opening screen so have to force quit.

Sometimes it loads works fine until I save and then it hangs so I lose all the work I've done.

This is not great considering we pay a subscription.

I've gone down to Illustrator 27.96 as i was getting more problems with v28.

Can you please advise on a solution?

Hi @Francesco35154432doxa,

I’m sorry to hear about the issues you’re facing with Illustrator after updating to Sonoma. I understand how frustrating it is, especially when you’re losing work.

Could you try updating your macOS from Sonoma to Sequoia and see if that helps? Sometimes, newer updates bring fixes for compatibility issues like this. Also, since the crashes seem inconsistent, it’s possible that a third-party application could be interfering with Illustrator.

Would you mind trying to run your Mac in Safe Mode to see if the issue still occurs? This can help identify if another program is causing the problem.

Let us know how it goes—we’re here to help you troubleshoot!

Best,

Anshul Saini

Hello thanks for getting back.

Unfortunately safe mode didn't make any difference. It still requires several attempts to start Illustrator however so far today it hasn't crashed once started or saving documents.

Are there any other options? Otherwise I will have to revert back to Ventura or Monteray as it was stable on those.

Hello @Francesco35154432doxa,

Thanks for confirming. Would you mind trying to run Illustrator under a different administrator account (Windows / macOS) and checking if it helps?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thanks,

Anubhav

Hello,

After a few weeks of not using and testing things out I discovered the AiRobin was causing many problems with my cpu. It was hogging all the resources and crashing illustrator.

I deleted the AiRobin folders found in Library and switch off some automating preferences in Illustrator settings and all began to work properly.

Why does creative cloud have so much background memory hogging features? There are far too many core syncing features with creative cloud which hogg an old macs resources. These features should have a opt out function or at very least a switch off.

Adobe needs to give more user options when it comes to syncing.

I also absolutly hate the splash screens that basically just get in the way of me working.

I just want software that works and doesn't take up my time trying to figure out how to navigate stupid uneccesary pointless features.
