Illustrator keeps crash, even with previous versions that were working fine.

Illustrator keeps using extremely high amounts of memory on my pc to barely do anything. When making repeat patterns in illustrator and taking them into photoshop, illustrator stops responding, I also have problems with resolving my repeat pattern blocks that have those tiny white lines between the panels the software won't let me merge the vector pattern in the shape drawn (which normally resolves this issue of vector to pixels).

How much RAM is installed?

How many objects are there after expanding the patterns?

There is 16GB of RAM, so it seems strange. For example I had to remove the two latest version of illustrator, and now I seem to be struggling with photoshop with it coming up with not enough ram for just a copy and paste.

So it is the repeat pattern square with one repeat vector that includes 20 individual panels from the design in my swatches panel. This is the same after expanding, and then when trying to merge it doesn't do anything as it thinks it is a single object.

This looks like a raster image after expanding. Is it very high resolution? And if there are more tiles, then this might get to the limits of your machine. 16 GB might just not be enough for this.
