Illustrator keeps de-selecting my selections on its own

this has been happening for the last couple of times I worked in Ai and its getting on my hair. Ai just keeps de-selecting my selections like 28-30 seconds after I've selected an object (any object; vector or a image). Its really disrupting my workflow and i have checked if its been happening to anyone else. I've checked if there are similar threads but i couldnt find any.

I've been experiencing this issue as well. Disruptive and frustrating.

macOS High Sierra 10.13.6, iMac (21.5-inch, Late 2013), 2.7 GHz, 16 GB.

Illustrator CC, 22.1

Did it ever work?

Did it just start?

For one user this could just be solved by resetting the preferences, which might be necessary, but might also cause a lot of hassle.

So first you might want to try: restarting the machine, using a different pointing device.

It would be interesting to know if you migrated preferences when upgrading to the current version.

I found what was causing the issue for me was that I had a couple assets become unlinked in the Links window, and they were constantly trying to update from the cloud, but kept failing. Every time it tried reconnecting it, it would deselect any layer I was on. Hope this helps someone!

Nobody can tell you anything without exact system info or other technical details. For all we know, this could just be soem input device driver stealing AI's focus or whatever.
