Illustrator links are broken upon document recovery

Here's the bug:
In Illustrator 24.1.X, all links will be broken when you try to open a recovered document. This does not happen in 24.0.X
How to reproduce:
Create an AI File
Link a png from the 'Links' folder next to it
Save it
Make an edit and let it Auto Save
Force Close AI
Open the 'recovered' file when it asks me
You are met with this:
'Could not find a plug-in to read the linked file "Links". Choose Replace to select another file or ignore to leave the link unchanged.' (screenshot attached)
The message repeats for however many links you had.
If I ignore it, you're met with links that have no name, no format, and no location. The ONLY identifying information is the resolution.
These tests were carried out on a Mac running 10.15.6.
This is an egregious bug. Adobe support were unfortunately not helpful. Is there anyone here that might be able to get in touch with the correct team to deal with this?

Got the exact same issue since yesterday.
Every time I attempt to save my document, the program crashes.
When opening the recovered version I get something along the lines that a file named "" is missing.
I pick the option "Replace". I navigate to a random image in the same folder as my assets were located (just to chose something since I can't make out which image is missing to start with).
After I chose an image i get the error message:
"Could not find a plug-in to read the linked file [name_of_folder_the_file_I_picked_is_located_in]. Choose Replace to select an other file or Ignore to leave the link unchanged.".
Rather annoying to say the least.

File recovery is a last straw and nothing more.
Don't ever rely on it.
Fix the crashes and then set up a proper backup strategy.
And then if anything goes wrong, use Recovery for the changes of the last 10 minutes, but never more than that.
So which version are you using on which system?
Where are you saving your files?
Is a printer attached and turned on?
Do you use font management?
Are all fonts 150% OK?
Do you use third party plugins?
Does this happen with all your files?
Did it ever work?

Hey Monica,
I appreciate that it is the final thing we should rely on, but Illustrator crashes are so frequent and unexpected that file recovery was being used more than anticipated.
In answer to all your questions:
- Read my OP
- No, several different systems experience the same issue
- Yes, but also tested without
- You can't be more sure than 100%
- No
- Read my OP

Please read my original post and you'll see that this is something broken on Adobe's side, not on the end users.

In your OP you mention only how to force crash your file.
This is not what I am asking.
My post is about fiing your issue with Illustrator crashing on its own. This shouldn't happen regularly. And that is the thing that needs to be fixed.

Sorry I misunderstood, but one of your questions was regarding the recovery
functionality that I was talking about.
We've done everything possible to stop crashes, but that's not what I was
asking.
We're on the same page that the recovery method shouldn't be broken,
especially when it used to work, right?

The recovery shouldn't be broken, right.
So if you want to report that to engineering, I suggest you go to http://illustrator.uservoice.com - on the forum we are at least 95% not even Adobe staff.
If you want your Illustrator install fixed, Customer Care could take a look at it. https://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html

It is good to know that mentioning all the bugs here does not reach Adobe. I see why things don't get fixed for years.

Recovery link thing is broken for years by now, but Adobe does not bother. Seems like big issue.
