Illustrator: macOS Kernel Panic on Load / Save

New Here ,
Sep 30, 2021 Sep 30, 2021

Recently my 15" MacBook Pro 2015 running 11.6 (Previously happend with 11.5.2) has been crashing when I load .ai projects. Sometimes it crashes immediately on load, other times it crashes when saving.
I have tried installing new copies of AI 2020, 2021, and Beta but all versions are having the issue.
Some things I've tried:
Disable Wacom under devices. Disable GPU performance. Enable secondary scratch disk. Disconnected all devices from the laptop. Removed all plugins.

Another member of the team is having similar issues. Looking for some troubleshooting ideas and solutions to test.

Thanks!

Hi there,

Sorry to hear about the trouble. Could you please share a few more details like:

  • The exact version of Illustrator Installed
  • Submit the crash report by following the steps suggested here (https://helpx.adobe.com/in/indesign/kb/submit-crash-reports.html).
While submitting the crash report, please use the same email address with which you are signed in on this community. This will help us find the crash report and help accordingly.
  • Share the documents with us? You can upload it to the Creative Cloud (https://helpx.adobe.com/in/creative-cloud/help/share.html) and share the download link here to via DM.
  • Where are you saving the files (Network Drive/ System HDD/ Shared Folder on System/ External HDD)?
  • Does resetting Illustrator Preferences ( https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/using/setting-preferences.html) help to resolve the issue?
Disclaimer: Please note that resetting preferences will remove all the custom settings, and Illustrator will launch with default settings. You can also take a backup of the folders in case you want to. Location is mentioned in the article.

Also, in addition to the suggestion shared by @Omar.Fathy, you may try running the app in Safe Mode (Mac) & Root account (Mac). Open Illustrator only and try opening & saving files. Let us know how it goes.

We will be looking forward to your response.

Thanks & Regards,

Anshul Saini
