Illustrator - masked line still visible on export

I have created a new logo for my media business in Illustrator. One of the layers is a circle and I have masked out the top and bottom and filled in with text. The mask looks perfect in Illustrator, but when I export to any format, suddenly the sections of the circle that are masked out become visible again. They are mostly transparent, but still very visible.

You might want to use some or one of the Pathfinder tools ad just delete the artwork where it is masked ( for instance, Pathfinder > Divide > then delete the sections you do not want ).

Yeah, that probably would work better. Didn't even think about that. I've only been using Illustrator for about a year, so I'm still learning. This still begs the question though, 'Why would the masked line still be visible after export?'. Any ideas?
