Illustrator not letting me repeat duplicate an image

I pasted a logo into Illustrator and want to duplicate it to create name tag rows/columns but when I go to Object > Repeat, the Radial Mirror and Grid options are grayed out/won't let me select them.  Why does it not work/do I have to convert my image to a specific format for it to work? Thank you!
