Illustrator not recognising eGPU on MacOS

New Here ,
Mar 02, 2019 Mar 02, 2019

Hi all,

Illustrator 2019 does not recognise the Radeon Vega 56 eGPU, while the program has been marked 'Prefer external GPU' in the Inspector. I've reinstalled the program, and I've also tried the 'extend desktop' solution mentioned here: Use an external graphics processor with your Mac - Apple Support

The weird thing is, Photoshop 2019 does recognise the eGPU, but InDesign does not...

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Thanks!

I just went through all of the regular listing places for what graphics cards were tested for each of the applications. I can't find that particular card being tested for compatibility on any of the lists. Looks like it will be hit or miss as to which applications recognize it or not.

When Photoshop can do something that does not automatically mean other applications can do the same.

Thanks for the info! I was confused that the Vega 56 is a standard card in the later iMac pro models, but that it is still not recognised. I was hoping someone had experience with one of those models in which it is built in, to see if they had it working in Illustrator.

I think you should assign softwares from the GPU Settings not from the software you are working with.
In NVidia Cards, We should tell it which programs to work with from the card settings.

Thanks! I did both, but it did not seem to matter at all.

Considering the Radeon Vega 56 Chipset is now in the latest variations of the iMac, and also in the Pro should it not  be getting some priority attention?
