Question

Illustrator not saving recovered files after freeze/force quit

I've had illustrator crash before, usually over a file that was too large/too many anchor points, but this one doesn't have many at all, it also used to always save files as [Recovered] and never lost much work because of this, but after updating my mac software and illustrator software recently, the program crashed once, and froze the next time, with absolutley no auto save or recoverey to be found, many hours of work lost. Firstly i have the scratch disk on an external SSD, and i also have my settings so that it should auto save on crashes, this happened twice in the space of a few days, any help much appreciated, screenshots attached

Hello @nadrojxinnam,

I'm sorry to hear about your experience. Would you mind checking if there are any AID files in the recovery folder? If yes, kindly share them here after uploading them to a file-sharing service so I can check them on my end.

Also, check if Illustrator has Full-Disk access enabled under macOS preferences (https://adobe.ly/3Zqsnvc).

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hello @nadrojxinnam,

Thanks for sharing the details. If there are no files available in the Recovery folder, the file is likely lost. I understand this may not be the ideal outcome, and I apologize for any inconvenience caused.

Could you confirm if the file was saved on a network, removable drive, or a cloud-synced folder like Google Drive or Dropbox? Storing files in such locations can sometimes lead to corruption issues. To prevent this from happening in the future, we recommend saving your work locally first and then manually copying it to your desired backup location.

To avoid similar situations in the future, we advise saving multiple copies of your active work locally or saving them as cloud documents.

Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any further questions or need assistance. We're here to help.
