Question

Illustrator not showing preview for placed/ imprted PSD PSB files contains big dimension in mm

Hello

When I insert a PSD, PSB file with dimensions greater than 330 cm vertically, I get a problem:

Either nothing will be inserted, or an empty frame with the size of the Photoshop file format, but no preview of the content. The link to the file is visible.

There is no preview in any of the options - CPU or GPU view.
I'm working on Illustrator 26 and 27  problem exist on every version (including 27.1.1)
Macbook M1 max (64gb ram). Mac OS Ventura 13.1.

How to resolve this problem?

Regards

How large file size is the psb you are trying to place? what are the actual dimensions overall? Is it exceeding the max artboard area for Illustrator?

Sample files that I had to deal with and which caused a problem on M1 (worked OK on mac intel)

PSD or TIF (layered with LZW) - several layers + several smart object photo:
file size: 170 MB
dimension: 335x3345 mm
resolution 300 dpi

I try make doc in illustrator with this same actual dimensions.

I can't PLACE this Photoshop file with corect preview - it's empty frame (links exisist) or place nothing - no frame, no links.

This same file illustrator I open on Mac with intel and PLACE works fine.

Hi @Jedrzej5F9E,

We are sorry for the trouble. We are aware of this issue. We have already logged a bug with the product team. We are able to replicate this behavior with a couple of PSD files in Illustrator 2021, 2022 & 2023.

The preview is visible for all the files on Ai 2020 & older.

Would you mind sharing the PSD& PSB files here or via DM? We need more files to investigate the issue further. It would be really helpful for us.

Also, the only workaround is to embed the PSD file as of now.

I will be looking forward to the sample files.

Thanks,

Anshul Saini

Did you try to cut them in 2 halves?

Of course, sometimes you can cut the graphics, but it makes it difficult.

The problem does not occur on any Intel-based Mac with the same software.
