illustrator Prefs Issues

I have an issue (one of many) with this so called industry standard application, I've updated to the latest version reset a few prefs but illustrator in it's infinite wisdom has decided that my units of measurement will be points?, I change it back to mm but every time I re-open this painful application it reverts back to points, this appears to be the only pref it will not keep, anyone else have similar issues or even better a solution?

cheers in advance....

I do not want points.......I want mm which is what I have always had, I do not want points..... when I open a document or template which is set and saved as mm it still opens in points, it should not do this and it never did until the latest release of illustrator,, clearly an illustrator issue.

Every document we have in our system is in mm, my templates are in mm?

If you open a document with mm as settings then is should keep mm, even as the Preferences units are set to something different.

If you create a new document with mm as units and your Preferences units were different it will change the Preferences units to mm.

If that is not working for you, try to reset your preferences (maybe backup the prefs folder first).

So whenever you create a new file, Illustrator shows you Inches for the document type you select?

Set up your new documents profiles in the way you need them. The initial unit for the last used document type will be what you last selected. But if you select a new document type from the "Print" or "Web" or whatever tab, then Illustrator will show what's in the New document profile.

No, reverts to points irrespective of what I do, I use set of art templates all set up correctly, illustrator ignores the general setting (mm) and reverts to points...

In your template file the unit is set to Millimetre, but when you create a new document based on that template, the unit is set to Inches?

You set the unit of a document by right clicking in the ruler?

to be clear, you're changing one or more of these settings to something that isn't points:

and then when you close and reopen AI, it reads points again?

does AI close properly? no 'unexpectedly quit' or hanging or anything?

To clarify, I'm changing 'General' to mm but when I re-open it defaults back to points, yes it closes correctly but makes no difference how I close it/restart the Mac, it does whatever it wants?

does it do this even with no open docs?

new documents will open with that pref at whatever was set in the new document screen.

Yes, makes no difference what the file is saved with?
