Illustrator printing problem ?

Community Beginner ,
Sep 23, 2017 Sep 23, 2017

Okay, so I will try to explain my problem as best as I can. So I've got a sheet of paper that is 14.72 cm x 21 cm with rows. I created a document in Illustrator with exactly same dimensions 14.72 x 21 cm and I aligned the rows and typed the word "Hello" on the first row in the illustrator file and when I printed it the word was in a completely different position from where it was supposed to be (in the middle) what did I do wrong ? I made them both the same size and aligned everything ?

Please define "completely different".

Most printers need some kind of edge around the paper where they can't print.

How is everything set up in the print dialog?

The red circle is where it was supposed to be printed the green one is where it had printed.

Check the Placement to see if it is aligned correctly, you should notice in the preview area to the left how the image adjusts based on the registration point. Here are two different registration points, note the preview.

You may also want to check to see what the Scaling dropdown options affect the placement on the paper.

If you are printing labels by any chance, templates for Illustrator are usually available on their website. I know Avery has them.

You only need to post this once.

So the printing preview showed it correctly, but then it printed wrong?

OK, then we have a problem, because the issue is in some misunderstanding between your printer and Illustrator.

Did you use features of the printer driver when printing? That is: did you click on "Setup"? In that case a warning should pop up, that Illustrator's settings might get overwritten.

Can you try printing without doing any specific printer setup?

I tried. I think the problem is that the smaller border is in a bigger border in the preview in the left. If I get it the small border where the text is to be fully sized then it should print correctly but I don't know how 😕

Try and select domething different where at the moment it says "Defined by driver". Set up the artboard size there (artboard is same as paper, right?).

And then don't do any printer spedific setup in this additional dialog box.
