Illustrator priorities -> Basic features UX improvement

New Here ,
Feb 07, 2024 Feb 07, 2024

What is Illustrator's team roadmap? I see a tons of new features but the most basic ones are still a pain in the ass to use...

It's a nightmare to resize text box once you draw it (there is no straightforward way to do so sorry... just look at what Figma do and copy it please ...).

Then there is still, in 2024, no color picker (or eye dropper, or whatever the name) in the color picker! ðŸ˜³

Next, the layer panel.... I don't know, I think it really needs an overhaul. In fact, I think that many basic features need an improvement. Without doing hours of configuration it's really hard to use effectively illustrator. I've been using Illustrator since 2013 and am moving more and more toward Figma for many things (I even used it for printing stuff!) because it is just so much easier to use.

Alignement... ðŸ˜

Hopefully basics are going to improve soon ðŸ¤ž

What are your thoughts guys about the basic things?  The UX? The keyboard shortcuts? I have the feeling that I have to update most of them. M to draw a rectangle. Why? It's Mectangle? Mquare? L to draw an ellipse/ovale ? Llipse maybe ? I don't know I just can't grab the logic behind the keyboard shortcuts they have put in the first place. I don't know what you guys think about it? What are them strategies to bind keyboard shortcut? Didn't they know how many times a tool is used so they can bind to it the most straightforward keyboard shortcut to it? Maybe, probably, I'm just a stupid alien ðŸ‘½

In general, this is the appropriate route for suggestions, feature requests etc.:

As for the shortcuts for tools in the Tools palette: You can change them to whatever you want in the Keyboard Shortcuts dialog.

Are you sure that you have discovered all the tools?

Because when you have assigned R to rectangle, then what would rotate be?

I don't know about you but I tend to use more often the tool Rectangle than Rotate. Rotate could be CTRL + R (if not taken by the Ruler - I don't really need a shortcut for that). Rectangle being a basic shape and Rotate being a setting applied to a shape, that R & CTRL + R configuration seems natural to me to be as is out of the box.

Do you really think that is an appropriate attitude for "fixing" the UI/UX of a worldwide used application?
