Illustrator is unable to export to SVG using the Export Assets function in Illustrator 28.5. (So frustrating.)

I did find a workaround I wanted to share, to save you the time troubleshooting.

For SVGs:

  1. Use File/Save a Copy …
  2. rename prefix for file (Save a Copy ... will add the artboard name following your prefix)
  3. Select Use Art Boards | Range # ____
  4. Select location
  5. Select SVG
  6. Select SVG 1.0 ( DO NOT USE 1.1, it will not work)
  7. Select OK

  • Illustrator 28.5
  • Macbook Pro, 2023 Chip M2 Pro
  • My files are all vectors, with no imported images.

Was there any error message when it didn't export the SVG?

Yes, I can't recall the error exactly but it was something like "unable to export internal error." no numbers or references.
