Illustrator's equivalent of Photoshop's offset

Question

Hi all

as per title, I would like to know if AI has something similar to PS offset. I need to create a seamless hatching (drawn manually). I can easily do this in PS by using the filter, offset tool which will nudge the artwork sideways so that you can match the edges when drawing/filling in the canvas.

I know AI has the pattern feature but I can only use once the hatching is done and will overlap (without matching nicely).

Any help much appriciated.

I'm using the paintbrush tool but no custom brush, just the default basic line which will look like the pen tool path. I'm using it cause i need to draw the hatching manually and I cant do them with the pen tool.

Then you can better use the Pencil tool (N) instead of a brush.

"I know AI has the pattern feature but I can only use once the hatching is done"You do not have to create the hatching before using Object > Pattern > Make.You can start with an empty area and create your hatches in the Pattern maker.
