Illustrator separates sentences of text into individual boxes

Hello there, 

I've had this problem for years on multiple accounts and computers. Whenever I save an illustrator file and return to it later, I find that my text boxes have been split into several boxes that no longer connect. I have to re-type every sentence. I've looked online and have yet to find a solution.

This sounds like you have opened a PDF and not a native AI file. How are you saving your files??

Anything else happening? Lots of clipping masks? Layers gone?

 

If so, then saving goes wrong. Exactly where do you save your files? Exactly which file format using which options do you save?

 

If you are saving AI files, then the first measures would be to turn off "Save in background" in the Illustrator preferences, and only save to the local harddisk. Not on servers. Synchronized folder also might ge wrong.
