Question

Illustrator slow after most recent updates. Slow save speed.

After most recent updates, I noticed that iilustrator has slowed down drasitically in terms of performance. Most noticable in the time it takes to save the file.

I had 4  A6 artboards set, each with their own design. It took ilustrattor around 4 seconds to save the file when pressing cmd+s .

OS: macOS Sequoia 15.5

Illustrator: 29.6.1

Hi @S_Hara1919 & @szymon_5776

Thanks for jumping in and sharing your experience, and I'm really sorry to hear about the lag and crash.

If you haven't already, could you try the suggestion from the expert above and check if turning off "Save in Background" under Preferences > File Handling makes a difference?

If the issue persists, I'd recommend reviewing the performance tips in this article: https://adobe.ly/44HPJQD. It covers steps like managing GPU settings, optimizing files, and working with linked images that can make a real difference, even on powerful machines.

Also, please take a look at this similar community post where others have faced slow saving issues too: https://adobe.ly/45fPv3m

Let me know how it goes after trying those suggestions.

Looking forward to your update.

Same issues here.  just bought new Mac book air with latest versions MacOS sequoia 15.5 and adobe illustrator 29.6.1.

extreme lag when moving around pages and even copy and pasting text in a file that's only 100MB. Also the file crashed completely and didn't save my work in time. Can anyone explain what is going on and how to fix it?

Can you check in Preferences > File Handling if Save in Background is checked? If so, does unchecking help?
