Illustrator text disappears when outlined

I am running latest version of Illustrator and frequently uninstalling / installing to swap between English International and English Arabic versions – Mac OS Mojave (10.14.6).
Printer requires outlined fonts – when outlining some characters just disappear! This does not do this on all files / text, just some places and varies from file to file. Different characters, different places.
Font is Adobe Arabic (through Creative Cloud). I am using the latest version of Suitcase Fusion for font management - plug-ins are up to date. Nothing unusual, hidden characters etc. Has been working well for years!

I have tried new document, new text (point type and text box). As soon as I reverse the paragraph direction it disappears when outlining.

I have read a couple of other threads but no solution to the problem that works. I would far rather have a solution than a workaround (wouldn't we all!)

Any ideas? Leaves me with zero confidence when supplying artwork.

Attached image (yes, the 8%* is upside down).

Thank you for sharing a screenshot. Yes, it seems to be a bug.

  • When I type your example with Eastern Arabic (Hindi) numerals ١٢٣٤ only, the outlined result is fine.
  • When I use Arabic numerals 1234 only as in your example the stand alone numbers disapear just like in your example, if however I type any characters in Arabic اب ت ث, or English A B C, the standalone numbers will not disapear!

Please log a bug report so we can vote on it.

Does it work with Object > Flatten transparency?

Some parts of formatting or styling vanishing is a known issue with the "Outline stroke" command in InDesign, but using "Faltten transparency" instead should work.

I'm also using Adobe Illustrator 2023 Version 27.7 and the problem has been same.

When the livetext turn outline some of glyph and number disappear also font style has been changed from helveticaneue italic to helveticaneue regular.

That is not the latest version.

Did you already reset the preferences?

Does flatten transparency work for you instead of Convert to outlines?

Might seem like an odd workaround, but seemingly works if you simply need the type turned

into outlines. My solution was:

1.) Object > Envelope Distort > Make with Warp, then simply put 0% on any Style,

2.) Object > Envelope Distort > Expand

May not be the finest solution, but turns the font into outlines and is editable as a vector and I've used this

method for a number of vector issues down the years as a quick fix.

Hoping it helps 🙂

So flatten transparency does not work for you?

I'm not following what you are doing, nor I was able to see the image you mentioned.

For me on Mac OS Big Sur, Ai v.25.4.1(Middle Eastern), Create Outline works for me well testing on several Arabic fonts including Adobe Arabic, however without looking at the your example, my testing may be incomplete.

Unsure what happened to the uploaded file! Files attached.

When outlining the font some of the text (numbers) disappear.

Monika's suggestion sovles the matter in my testing, just check "Convert all Text to Outline".

I beleive we could still report the "Create Outline" as a bug.

Does it work when you use Object > Flatten transparency for outlining? Check the option "Outline text"

My own workaround for this specific problem...

Reverse paragraph direction and retype the 3 characters / revers alignment.

I think there may be a glitch with outlining and the paragraph direction perhaps?
