I download vector images from Adobe stock photos they have the .ai extension and up until recently I was able to select the file and hit the space bar to see what the image is. Now I have no previews to look at. And this has been asked in other streams but this situation is different because I don't want to open every illustrator file to find out what it is or to save as pdf compatible. This is very time consuming. These are stock images from Adobe stock. I also don't want to have to open Bridge to see what the images are. I want it to be a quick simple thing like it has been forever. Any suggestions? I found the instructions to change the Illustrator.qlgenerator file and did so but it's not solving the situation.
Save them "PDF compatible". MacOS uses that embedded PDF.
If a file doesn't have an embedded PDF you could never see what's inside in Mac OS (I've been using Mac OS for 30 years)

No eps preview in MAC OS Find -
Apple has ditched EPS. It's last century's file format and hasn't received an update since 1997.

Try viewing with Adobe Bridge. I don't use Sonoma, so I can't test it, but Bridge can generate a preview for .ai files without PDF compatibility.

The removal of eps and AI file preview is a choice Apple made. They say it's because of the ability to embed bad code in an EPS file - golly PDFs and JPGs can also have bad code embedded. This more likely an issue of Apple not wanting to pay a liciense fee for the 'review'.. recall that Apple did that a fiew years ago and Gallery View went away - poof. Maybe time to switch to the other guys - Adobe works there, and the issue of Fonts only playing nice of MAC is rear view mirror. YES Apple could fix this easy - but seems there is zero appetite to recognize the assset value of our Image Libraries of past wrok, that many of us search many days a week to find a "this" or a "that"... do i hear Windows in the air...?

There is no EPS embedded in AI files. AI files have PDF embedded if you do not turn that option off when saving. If you instead chose to save an EPS (which has been deprecated for years), then you are stuck where you are. But you can set up a batch to open them all and re-save them as AI files.
As for the Pantone colors: you are telling rumours here. Nobody knows what Pantone demanded. But with that Pantone Connect solution they now implemented, they do not just have money, they also get your data (if you choose to subscribe).
