I have the illustration wich is basically just some dots, i grouped all the dots. Put my text in front of it select both, make clipping mask. The text becomes white and it says the top object is very complex and may cause the document to fail to print or preview if used as a mask.
What am i doing wrong?
Thanks in advance.

Lou,
It ought to work.
Is the Type outlined? If it is, you should select all the letters and Object>Compound Path>Make.

There was no real reason to otline he text but since you did what you hae to is
1 Sellect the letters of the outline text group and ungroup the letters
2. wile still selected go to Object>Compound Path>Make
(even though it looks like it is already a compound path)(The active release item refers to the individual letters and yo have o make the group of letters into a compund pah as well!)
3. Now select the letters and the group dots andd make a clipping mask.
This will give you the desired results.

Did it, it says. Can't make clipping mask. A path used as a clipping maks must contain at least two connected anchor paths
Thank you for replying by the way

Just be aware there is no need to outline text to use it as a clipping mask unless you also want to edit the font outline.

If anyone else is struggling with a similar issue. I just realized I had already made a clipping mask in a part of the document previously and didn't realize or remember that.. I had to release that before I could make another. Spent way too much time before I realized my mistake. I found the mistake when looking at the "layers" box.
