Question

Illustrator won't recognize text objects

Hi,

I am brand new to Illustrator 2022 version. I am editing my figures that I made in R. I save them as a PDF from R and load them into Illustrator. 3 out of the 12 figures won't recognize text. In the other figures, I click on text and it is underlined but in these 3 figures, I can only select one letter at a time (the text also looks weird even though its the same font as the other figures). Also, when I try to do "Select all text objects" it thinks there is no text when there actually is.

I tried to reset my preferences but this is still happening. I am also saving the figures the same, I do not know why it is only these 3 in which the text is not recognized. Please let me know if there is something I am not doing!

Thanks!

Illustrator is not a general purpose PDF editor.

What you can do: select all text objects that make one word, cut them and then create a new text object and paste.

Hi, Thanks for the 10 commandments. The problem is I can't even select all text objects because it won't register that there is even text. I think what I am most confused about is why the other PDFs were okay to use and compatible with Illustrator but these aren't. Not sure if anyone has tried to use with R graphics.

Might be a different version of that other application or different options or whatever.

With PDFs you get what you get. Does Acrobat recognize the text?
