Image Disappears During Image Trace

I was given a full color png logo.  I changed the color in Photoshop Elements to all white, saved as both a png and psd file.  I then went to Illustrator and did a File - Place with the white logo to add the image to my project.  I then went to Window - Image Trace and selected Ignore White.  I tried tracing in Color which resulted in the screen going blank and then in Black and White which resulted in a white box.  Both times I had Ignore White selected.  I tried doing this with both the white logo in psd and white logo in png format.  If I take the original full color logo and drop it into Illustrator, I have no problem using the image trace.  When I recolored the logo white in photoshop elements, I tried recoloring using Enhance - Adjust Color - Replace Color Tool and also by selecting Solid Color fill in the Layers panel.  I am not sure why the colored logo would work but none of my white logos, where I replaced the color work.

    Ignore white does just that - white is ignored. So a white logo would result in nothing to trace.

    Try instead turning the logo to entirely black, and then coloring the resulting trace in white afterward.

    Your post is a bit confusing to me.

    I changed the color in Photoshop Elements to all white...

    ...and selected Ignore White.

    If you're trying to trace a logo which you've filled all white, why are you selecting Ignore White?

    If I take the original full color logo and drop it into Illustrator, I have no problem using the image trace.

    Okay, so if he objective is all white, you could just trace the color version and apply white fills to the resulting objects.

    I am self taugh in Illustrator so my knowledge is limited.  Previously, if I failed to click the Ignore White button, it would fill in the background as white.  I was trying to prevent that from happening which is why I selected Ignore White and did not even think about it ignoring the white logo.  I changed to black, traced and then recolored.
